Ali Shaheed Muhammad’s on the Gemini mixer… Actually, I think this time, the A Tribe Called Quest DJ was using a Vestax model, but that didn’t stop the crowd from going wild for the veteran hip-hopper’s surprise appearance at the Rivoli during the July 13th Bump n’ Hustle night. Having spun just the night before at the State Theatre for the first Fever weekly, Ali Shaheed took a slight break from spinning hip-hop and concentrated most of his playlist on a mélange of disco, r&b and only a handful of hip-hop jams typical for Bump nights. This wasn’t a scheduled shoot as the NFA crew and I had just came from the awesomeness that was the MAS TEES T-shirt launch and I happened to have my gear with me.
